The Learning Curve Academy’s shadowing programme involves giving student(s) the opportunity to follow or accompany a person with experience in the field of choice as they carry out their daily activities. This allows them to experience the reality of the work and effort that goes into a job, and allows them to evaluate whether they are truly interested in performing a similar – or the same – job in the future.
Through our shadowing programme, a group of students were paired with Vipul Mahuvakar, a mechanical engineer and the owner of Definite Design, and they shadowed him for a day. Highlights from their experience included learning the process of how the water purification system at the Tarapur Atomic Power Station was created, right from conceptualisation, to its design both on paper and as a 3D model, up to its construction. Students were introduced to the many ways in which classroom knowledge can translate into practical application. Most importantly, they learned what it means to be an engineer in a professional capacity, preparing them for their experiences ahead.
